Master the art of custom footwear by transforming your favourite quilted textiles into wearable art. In this intensive workshop, you will create a one-of-a-kind pair of custom shoes using either your own quilted fabric or a piece created in our Bargello for Small Projects class. The “Big Win” of this session is conquering structured assembly, where you will learn to bridge the gap between flat sewing and 3D construction. You will leave the classroom not just with a finished pair of high-quality, personalized shoes, but with the technical confidence to install professional hardware and manipulate heavy-duty materials for future accessory projects.

What You Will Learn

• • Precision Pattern Placement: Mastering the layout and cutting of quilted fabric to ensure patterns align perfectly with your chosen sole size.
  • Three-Dimensional Assembly: Learning the specific techniques required to sew a flat fabric upper into a contoured shoe shape.
  • Hardware Installation: Professional techniques for setting grommets and eyelets using specialized tools for a durable, high-end finish.
  • Sole Integration: Understanding how to properly bond and secure your fabric uppers to pre-formed rubber soles for long-lasting wear.
  • Finishing & Detailing: Learning the “pro-touch” methods to hide raw edges and reinforce stress points in DIY footwear.

Class Details

• Date & Time: April 18th, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Location: Maker Savvy Classroom
• Skill Level: Intermediate. Students should be comfortable operating a sewing machine and maintaining a consistent seam allowance. If you can sew a basic bag or a quilted pillow, you can do this class!
• Instructor & Qualifications: Taught by Kathy, an expert quilter and garment construction specialist with years of experience in turning traditional patchwork into functional, modern accessories.

Special Information & Preparation

• Pre-Class Prep: You must have your quilted fabric ready before the start of class.
• Lunch/Breaks: Please bring a bagged lunch and a water bottle. We will take a 30-minute break mid-session.
• What’s Included in Registration:
  • Notions: Shoe Pattern, use of Ironing Supplies.
  • Hardware: One pair of Soles (in your choice of size/color), professional Grommets, and Eyelets.
• Sole Selection: Please refer to the chart below and specify your size and color choice when registering.
