Blue Sky Fibers Prairie yarn is a unique, single-ply brushed suri yarn made from 100% alpaca. These 50-gram hanks are perfect to carry along with other yarns to create a feathery, soft halo, or to use on its own for light and airy garments and accessories.Â
Prairie has a textured centre strand surrounded by a gloriously soft halo of baby alpaca. We find it, being a fingering weight, knits up with a bit more body than lace-weight fluffs like Pretty Strings Pretty Cloud or Malabrigo Mohair, so if you’re planning to double it with something else, treat it like a fingering-weight yarn.
This non-itchy baby alpaca fluff knits up into the most wonderful, lightweight, warm shawls, sweaters, scarves, and wraps. We’ve used it in the Alpine Shawl by Jill Tamminen (Knit Sisu), and it’s a decadent, warm hug.
Prairie would also be lovely held double to make mittens, like in the Cloud Mittens pattern by Amanda Schwabe.

- 53% Suri Alpaca, 47% Baby Huacaya Alpaca
- Suggested needle sizes: 3.5 – 5.5 m / 4 – 9 US
- Gauge: 16 – 28 sts per 4 inches / 10 cm
- Dry clean or hand wash in tepid water using a mild soap. Do not agitate or twist. Shape and dry flat on a towel.
