Introduction to Freeform Crochet: Improv Summer Wrap
May 20 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Description
Freeform crochet is a pattern-free, artistic technique where crochet stitches are used spontaneously to create 2D or 3D fabric, often described as “painting with yarn” or “taking your yarn for a walk”. It involves mixing colours, textures, and varied techniques—sometimes combined with knitting or other fibre arts—without following traditional rules, patterns, or counting. In this class, we will use a pattern for a summer wrap as inspiration and then create colour mixes and textures.
What You Will Learn
-
-
- Foundation Row: create your starting chain and first row of stitches together. Can also be used to send your work in a different direction.
- Short Rows: create different shapes and areas of concentrated colour in the middle of your work.
- Alternate stitch definition: Create different looks for your stitches by placing your hook in a different starting point.
- 3D Texture: create raised textures and add colour to other areas by creating your stitch over multiple rows
