Fun with Cables


Description

Learn to make all sorts of cables in your knitting! In this two-hour workshop, you’ll learn the secrets of making twists and twirls in your knitting, how cabling works, how to cable without a cable needle, how to follow cable charts and instructions, how to fix mistakes in your cables, and how to design with cables. You’ll leave knowing how to bend cables to your will!


What You Will Learn

      1. How to make cables: The common methods knitters use to rearrange and cross their stitches without dropping stitches off the needles.
      2. Understand common abbreviations: Learn to recognize the different terms that mean the same thing.
      3. Learn to manipulate the look of cables: With hands-on practice, discover how changing the stitch count, rows, and background pattern can alter the finished look of your cables.
      4. How to fix mistakes made in cables: You don’t always have to rip out all your rows! Learn a more direct method of re-crossing cables that saves you time and headaches.
      5. How to cable without a cable needle: Once you’re comfortable with cabling, learn the next-step trick that lets you knit a little faster.

        • If you can knit, purl, and perform other knitting basics, you’re ready for this class.

        • Amanda Schwabe has been knitting and designing using cables and travelling stitches in innovative ways, and you can find her patterns in the book Echoes of Heather and Stone (available in store) and on Ravelry.
