Socks 101

July 13, 2027 @ 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Event Series (See All)

Master the art of sock knitting and unlock a modern world of hand-painted, hand-dyed yarns with this foundational project class. In this course, you will craft your very own pair of cuff-down boot socks while conquering the heel flap—a classic rite of passage that uses slip-stitch techniques for extra durability. By the end of class, you will leave with the foundational knowledge needed to confidently tackle sock patterns on your own and a gorgeous, wearable pair of handmade socks to show for it.

What You Will Learn

    • Cuff-Down Construction: Understanding the anatomy of a sock from top to bottom and how to construct it step-by-step.
    • Working in the Round (Magic Loop or DPNs): Learning how to manipulate circular needles for the Magic Loop method or double-pointed needles (DPNs) to manage small-circumference knitting cleanly.
    • Slip-Stitch Heel Flap: Mastering heel construction to create a sturdy, reinforced heel that holds up to daily wear.
    • Turning the Heel & Gusset Pick-Ups: Learning the precise shaping techniques used to turn the corner of the heel and pick up stitches along the gusset smoothly.
    • Yarn Selection & Gauge: Navigating sock yarns, hand-dyed colorways, and proper tension for long-lasting socks.
