Murder Mystery Knitalong 2026

November 3 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Murder Mystery Knitalong 2026

It’s time for Maker Savvy’s and aknitica’s annual Murder Mystery Knitalong event!

Dates

  • Cast-On Party: Thursday, October 8, 2026
  • Knitalongs: Tuesdays, October 13, 20, November 3, 10, 17, 2026
    • Afternoons 2 – 4 pm
    • Evenings 6 – 8 pm

Why should you sign up to make something mysterious and unknown?

  1. It’s a murder mystery! Enjoy the unfolding story, with all its twists and turns, read aloud to you each week one chapter at a time. It’s the best grown-up combo of bedtime story, knitalong, and social club.
  2. Become a better knitter. Every clue provides a potential new challenge and zing of excitement. Learn new techniques, get knitting help, and increase your knitting knowledge with Amanda Schwabe, aka aknitica, as your expert knitting guide.
  3. Make new friends. Share challenges, joys, and knitting stories; knit together and solve murders together. We are going to have so much fun!
  4. Feel like a knit designer without ever having to do any math! That excited anticipation leading up to a new clue drop? Watching a new idea unfold before your eyes? Those are the feelings Amanda gets when she’s working on a new design. Experience the mystery, wonder, excitement, and discovery of designing – without all the messy experimentation and ripping out that precedes the finished pattern.
  5. The Cast-On Party is a blast! Join us for delicious food and drink at 1818 Farm and Cidery in Carp, where we’ll kick things off with a murder, a mystery to solve, and the first clue of our knitalong.

What are we making?

It’s a wearable, stylish accessory to keep your neck and shoulders warm. It’ll look amazing paired with a long cardigan or worn over a cabled sweater.

The style vibe this year is classic autumn wear – think Aran knits, tweed, texture, sunny walks over crunching golden leaves.

Yarn Requirements

Maker Savvy has collaborated with Kim McBrien Evans of Indigodragonfly to curate a selection of dyed-to-order tweed skeins in colours that will complement the rich textures and patterns in our project.

Indigodragonfly’s new Nibbles Sock yarn base is a 2-ply superwash merino with playfully colourful tweed neps.

The deadline to order your custom-dyed tweed yarn is September 19th, 2026. Click here to choose a colour.

200(300) g / 800(1200) m / 874(1311) yds Fingering-weight (#1 superfine) yarn that can be blocked to size.

Yarn Delivery

You’ll receive your Indigodragonfly Nibbles yarn, wound into balls and ready to knit, at the Cast-On Party on October 8th, 2026.

What skill level is required?

Intermediate knitting skills are recommended. Experienced knitters should find enough interest and variety in the clues to keep them engaged. Less-experienced knitters will learn a few new skills, along with tips and tricks to help along the way.

What You Will Learn

      1. Knitting Techniques: Intermediate-level stitch pattern techniques. If we told you more, it wouldn’t be a mystery, now would it?
      2. How to Read Your Knitting: Learn to recognize particular stitches, line up stitch patterns, count rows in pattern, and more.
      3. How to Fix Mistakes: Since mistakes always happen to every knitter everywhere, these skills are foundational in every class Amanda teaches. Learn to fix stitches from previous rows without having to rip back, and if all else fails, learn to rip safely and then find your place again.
      4. Blocking: Learn the best ways to care for your finished knitting and wash and block it to shape to give it that final finishing touch.
